Who am I?

My name is Emil and I live in Skellefteå with my partner Sandra. I am a qualified energy engineer specialising in wind power and have worked in wind farm management for the past seven years. I have been part of the team at Holmen Renewable Energy since May 2024, and I’m based at the office in Kroksjön. I spend a lot of my spare time outdoors, hunting and fishing, and in autumn I enjoy picking mushrooms.

My workplace

I work in the Asset Management department, which has operational responsibility for all of Holmen’s hydro and wind power facilities. I am one of two people responsible for Holmen’s wind farms. Holmen owns two of these: Varsvik in Norrtälje with 17 turbines and Blåbergsliden in Skellefteå with 26 turbines. As I am here in Skellefteå, my focus is mainly on Blåbergsliden Wind Farm, which is located a few miles outside the city. We are also currently building another wind farm, Blisterliden, outside Skellefteå, which is expected to be operational in 2026.

I belong to the Holmen Renewable Energy business area, but my closest colleagues who I see on a daily basis work in Wood Products.

A typical day at work

The role of wind farm asset manager is very broad, as we handle everything from coordination and reporting to analyses, improvement work and much more. My working days vary a lot, but are often driven by what’s happening on the wind farms. As we recognise the importance of being on site, I also visit the wind farms regularly to check that they are safe places to work. My days are usually busy with meetings, as we are the contact point for all the actors working at and with the wind farms.

A great deal has been done recently to improve Blåbergsliden, where we’ve been in contact with several actors regarding blade heating and fire alarm systems. We’ve had to carry out technical analyses of the obstacles that still exist and how they can be resolved, but also a financial analysis, where we work together internally to look at the profitability of the interventions we want to make and how quickly the investment can be recouped.

Why Holmen?

I was attracted by Holmen’s investment in wind power – the fact that there was a small group working on the asset management side of things, somewhere where I felt my experience could be useful and we could build something good together. I like working with the wind farms that Holmen has built and then continues to own, as I’m used to being an intermediary from my previous place of work.
The job description and Holmen’s good reputation are what made me decide to apply, and I’m very happy to be part of Holmen Renewable Energy.

Conclusion

So glad you read my blog! I hope it gave you a little more insight into what we do at Holmen Renewable Energy and Asset Management.

That’s all from me!
